Accessibility Statement

A site that works for everyone.

BPD Academy is committed to digital accessibility. Our site is built to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard adopted by most U.S. educational institutions and referenced in Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Our current conformance

As of this page’s last audit (2026-04-21), the site meets or exceeds the WCAG 2.1 AA criteria listed below. The audit is re-run quarterly and any findings are tracked to resolution.

  • Keyboard navigable. All interactive elements reachable and operable with keyboard alone. A “Skip to main content” link is the first focusable element on every page.
  • Screen reader tested. Landmark regions (header, nav, main, footer), semantic headings, ARIA labels on all controls, and descriptive link text.
  • Color contrast. Text meets the 4.5:1 ratio for normal text and 3:1 for large text on every surface.
  • Font sizing. The site remains fully usable at 200% browser zoom without horizontal scrolling. A visible accessibility panel (bottom-right) lets visitors adjust font size and activate a high-contrast mode.
  • Reduced motion. All animations respect the prefers-reduced-motion media query.
  • Forms. Every form field has a persistent label, explicit required markers, and validation messages tied to inputs by aria-describedby.
  • Images. All informational images have alt text; decorative images are marked aria-hidden.
  • PDFs. Current-year PDFs (Family Handbook, Forms, Annual Report) are tagged for screen reader use. Older archived PDFs may not be; we tag them on request.
  • Captioned video. All embedded video includes closed captions; transcripts are available on request within two business days.
  • Translation. A Google Translate widget provides unofficial translations to ten languages. For official communications we provide professionally translated documents on request.

Known limitations

We report what we haven’t solved, because a real commitment says so.

  • Third-party embeds. We use Blackbaud, FACTS, and Smart Tuition portals. These are outside our control; we publish each vendor’s accessibility statement alongside the portal link.
  • Historical news articles published before 2020 may contain inline decorative styling that doesn’t meet current guidelines. We are re-marking-up old content on a rolling basis, priority-ordered by page traffic.

If you experience an accessibility barrier on this site, we want to know. Email accessibility@bpdschool.demo or call (610) 555-1234 ext. 101. We respond within one business day and provide an alternative format of the content you were trying to reach within two business days.
